John Terry says he’s heard something about Jose Mourinho at Chelsea which is ‘absolute nonsense’

John Terry has claimed he’s heard something about Jose Mourinho’s time at Chelsea which is ‘absolute nonsense’.

Despite the fact that Jose Mourinho went on to manage Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham, the Portuguese boss remains a popular figure in west London.

Mourinho enjoyed two successful spells at Stamford Bridge during the Roman Abramovich era.

The 61-year-old scooped two Premier League titles during his first spell at Stamford Bridge as he helped turn the Blues into a dominant force in English football.

He stunned the footballing world when he left by mutual consent in 2007 after a falling out with the powers that be at the club.

Of course, Mourinho returned to Chelsea six years later and delivered another league title and League Cup before things went downhill during the 2014-15 campaign.

Off the back of a poor start to the season, Mourinho was sacked in December 2015 with Chelsea sitting 16th in the table.

It came just seven months after he had guided the west Londoners to another title. But John Terry has backed his former boss and feels criticism over his man-management is ‘absolute nonsense’.

Terry on Mourinho’s second spell at Chelsea

Speaking on Up Front with Simon Jordan, Terry was asked what he believes Mourinho’s greatest attribute was.

“It’s difficult to highlight one,” the former Blues skipper said. “That [man-management] would be one.

“He gets a lot of stick for that as well. Even the second time around at Chelsea. Was he too hard? Did he change and all of that, which is absolute nonsense.”

Terry, who captained Chelsea during both of Mourinho’s spells at the club, was also full of praise for for his former boss during the interview. The Englishman admitted that he never challenged Mourinho and agreed with his methods.

Mourinho’s next job

With Mauricio Pochettino failing to win over Chelsea supporters this season, there have been calls from match-going fans for Mourinho’s return.

He was recently spotted at Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Craven Cottage and is currently a free agent after being sacked by AS Roma in January.

TBR confirmed on Wednesday that Pochettino’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain, with Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim admired at the west London club.

Whether or not Mourinho returns to the Premier League remains to be seen. But a third stint at Stamford Bridge seems unlikely at this stage.
