‘Unbelievable’: Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez reacts to key decision in 1-0 win against Wolves

Wolves endured another tough 90 minutes in the Premier League on Wednesday night as the Old Gold lost 1-0 at Molineux to Bournemouth, a game that saw more controversy from the officials.

Wolves extended their run without a win to seven games after losing 1-0 to Bournemouth as Gary O’Neil’s side’s misery continued.

It’s been a season to celebrate for the Old Gold despite their recent dip in form, with key injuries and a severe lack of squad depth becoming detrimental to the manager’s hopes of securing a European finish.

After 28 games played, Wolves remarkably sat just two points below seventh place in the Premier League table however, fast forward to now and six match days later, the Midlands club have slipped down to 12th and seven points away from a top-seven finish.

Wednesday night’s defeat to Bournemouth epitomised what has gone wrong for O’Neil, who has been left with limited resources to work with, not eased by yet another controversial VAR decision.

Stuart Attwell ruled out Hwang Hee-chan’s equaliser against the Cherries due to a foul in the build-up which triggered discussion however, it wasn’t Hwang’s disallowed goal that has been branded ‘unbelievable’.

Milos Kerkez reacts to ‘unbelievable’ decision in Wolves v Bournemouth

While VAR’s intervention for the Wolves goal was controversial, the visitors felt hard done by as Milos Kerkez was dismissed in the 79th minute for a foul on Matt Doherty.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola admitted that he expects the club to appeal the red card, with the Hungarian now taking the time to comment on his sending off at Molineux.

Taking to his social media, Kerkez described his dismissal as ‘unbelievable’, adding his belief that ‘football is getting really soft’.

As the 20-year-old went clattering into Doherty, it would be interesting to hear his take on the foul that Matheus Cunha committed in the build-up to Wolves’ disallowed goal, which could be seen in a similar light.

Gary O’Neil dismissed any excuses after Wolves defeat to Bournemouth

People will argue the decisions that the referees and VAR make in the Premier League every game however, O’Neil turned his attention to his dissatisfaction with his own side’s performance against the Cherries.

Disallowed goal or not, Wolves were below par in a game that they were lucky to see end 1-0, with opinion bound to be split over both the overturned goal and the Bournemouth red card.

It will be interesting to see how the visitor’s appeal of Kerkez’s red card plays out, considering that VAR reviewed the on-field decision and opted to not overturn it at that moment.
