‘Simple as that’: Ben Foster says 23-year-old Man City player is so important for the team

Ben Foster has highlighted one Manchester City player as being particularly important for the team.

After winning the Treble last season, the Citizens could end their latest campaign with another FA Cup and a fourth Premier League title in a row added to their cabinet.

With only a handful of games left to play before the season ends, one pundit and former Premier League player has been sharing his thoughts on one particularly prominent figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Foster highlights how important Erling Haaland is for Man City

Speaking in a recent video shared on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, Foster said this about Erling Haaland and what he offers the City team.

He said: “There’s not too many things left to say that haven’t been said to be fair.

“That’s what he’s all about, that pace, that power and then when he gets in front of goal, the inevitable is going to happen, he’s going to put it in the back of the net, simple as that.

“We’re talking left foot, we’re talking right foot, with his head as well.

“The beauty of what Erling Haaland is starting to turn into as well for Man City is there’s so much focus on him, the opposition have to double up on him and make sure that he’s really well looked after.

“From that point onwards, all the other players are benefiting from it. So much of the focus is on Erling Haaland, those guys get a little bit more space and freedom to go and work and get them goals as well.

“He’s at the best place to guarantee that you’re going to win tournaments, you’re going to win leagues, you’re going to win European championships.

“Him as a player, he’s not necessarily in the game all the time, that’s the beauty of what Erling Haaland does, it’s almost like he knows his job role so well, he doesn’t try to get involved in the stuff that he’s not particularly good at, he just waits and waits and waits and then he’ll score a goal.”

Erling Haaland isn’t just a top goalscorer for Man City

Having scored 83 goals in 92 games for the Citizens, the main focus of Haaland from people outside of City is, understandably, his goalscoring ability.

However, over the past few weeks, the 23-year-old’s general play has been the subject of criticism, with Roy Keane likening it to that of a League Two player earlier this month.

Now that Foster has spoken about the other areas of his game that make him such a useful figure for his team away from his talent of being able to put the ball in the back of the net, this should make it clear for others about what the striker offers his side.
