Wolves fans insist ‘football is dead’ after another ‘disgusting’ VAR call enrages fans

Enraged Wolves fans insist that ‘football is dead’ after another ‘disgusting’ VAR call ruled out Hwang Hee-Chan’s equaliser against Bournemouth.

Gary O’Neil’s side suffered another defeat on Wednesday night as Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal at Molineux.

It was a poor performance from the hosts with Jose Sa keeping Wolves in the game. Despite the below-average display, O’Neil’s side thought they had equalised as Hwang headed the ball into the net after the hour mark.

However, after a short delay, referee Stuart Attwell was advised to disallow the goal for an off-the-ball foul by Matheus Cunha.

VAR has been at the centre of many controversial moments so far in Wolves’ season and now fans are seemingly losing their patience.

Wolves managed to pull something out of nothing in the 68th minute. Nelson Semedo’s cross was met by the head of Hwang to equaliser, completely against the run of play.

From the naked eye, it looked like a well-worked goal. However, VAR adjudged Cunha’s foul on Justin Kluivert to be a clear and obvious error.

Journalist Nathan Judah was stunned by the decision. He took to X, formerly Twitter, to express his disbelief.

He said: “Zero – ZERO players on the pitch appealed for that foul. Ruining the GAME!!!!!!!!!!

“Fans have had enough.”

These thoughts were echoed by Mirror reporter Alex Richards who stated: “When goals like Hwang’s tonight are ruled out by VAR – for a mild off-the-ball incident where no one stops & it has no material impact on the game – you have to question whether officials are using the replay system for why it was intended or just creating their own issues.”

Wolves fans claim VAR is ‘ruining football’

Hwang’s goal isn’t the first controversial ruling surrounding Wolves and VAR this season.

O’Neil could easily argue that the club should sit in the European spots, with multiple decisions going against them.

Earlier this month, VAR was in the spotlight again when it disallowed Max Kilman’s equaliser against West Ham for a ‘subjective offside’.

This caused outrage from the Wolves supporters, but now, fans have completely turned their back against the system. Many took to social media to express their disgust with the decision, claiming that ‘football is dead’ and that ‘they won’t return to Molineux until VAR is gone’.

Fans continue to feel like they cannot celebrate a goal anymore. The last three times Wolves have managed to bundle the ball into the net at Molineux, VAR has ruled it out.

It’s time for Wolves to make an official complaint against the PGMOL

How many times is VAR going to do an injustice against Wolves? It seems that the club has exhausted every option available to them throughout the season trying to fix the issue. However, the longer the campaign has gone the worse the decisions have got.

O’Neil looked done after the match, with the manager seemingly giving up on commenting on VAR.

How Attwell was allowed to referee another Premier League match after a series of mistakes against Nottingham Forest proves the PGMOL’s incompetence.

The vast majority of fans are clearly against VAR, and with no signs of improvement, the club must stand against the system.

Wolves cannot sit in silence while more and more fans feel distanced from the game they love because of VAR.

Supporters have waited years for improvements which are yet to come. It’s time to kick VAR out of football.
