Gary Cahill says he played with someone at Chelsea who was even better than Frank Lampard

Gary Cahill played with some absolutely unreal players at Chelsea.

The England international was lucky enough to share the pitch with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Didier Drogba, Eden Hazard and Willian.

However, perhaps the best players he played with at Chelsea were two of his fellow England teammates.

Indeed, both John Terry and Frank Lampard were crucial to Chelsea’s success during this period, and speaking to ESPN, Cahill has now picked who is the better player between the two Chelsea icons.

Gary Cahill says John Terry was better than Frank Lampard

Cahill spoke about the two players.

“John Terry or Frank Lampard?

“John Terry,” Cahill said.

John Terry vs Frank Lampard

Now this is a debate that is bound to split the Chelsea fanbase.

Both men are undoubtedly two of Chelsea’s greatest legends, but who was better?

Well, from a technical standpoint, it’s hard to make an argument against Lampard. He’s the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, and he could perform magic on the ball.

However, at the same time, football is often about more than what you can do on the ball.

Indeed, this is a team game, and without leadership, discipline and hard-work, your team is never going to get anywhere.

Terry brought so much to that Chelsea team without being the flashiest player in the world, and without him in the side, the Blues perhaps wouldn’t have been as successful.

In our view, Lampard just about edges this debate as he was ultimately the man scoring the goals, but Terry was the beating heart of that Chelsea team in so many other ways.

Both men will go down in history as all-time greats, and, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who was better. After all, they worked so well as a pairing.
