Former South Carolina star quarterback Spencer Rattler is hoping to hear his name called sometime in the first couple of days of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Rattler threw for 3,186 and 19 touchdowns in 2023, overcoming poor offensive line play to still put up impressive numbers.

South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said recently that plenty of people in the NFL have reached out about Rattler lately, and he believes Rattler’s NFL Draft stock is on the rise.

“I’ve got a lot of calls and it’s picked up a lot in the last week,” Dowell Loggains said. “What you can tell everyone is what’s on tape. You’re talking about an extremely tough, tough player that’s got an unbelievable throwing motion. His throwing motion is what you want. I hope my son throws like him. … This guy is an extremely blessed thrower.

“He’s a great teammate. He’s an unbelievable teammate. … What I see is an unbelievable guy that cares about his teammates. That was an unbelievably close room because our leader was Spencer. It was not me. It was Spencer. He did everything the right way, took everyone in, cared about the other guys in the room.”

Spencer Rattler was ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 19 overall player in the country in the class of 2019, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

He started his career at Oklahoma, before transferring to South Carolina. While he was knocked some as a player and teammate during his time with the Sooners, he excelled on and off the field with the Gamecocks.

“The thing we talked about with Spence as this thing was going, he never complained about a leaky offensive line. He’s making all of these NFL throws with these three-level concepts,” Loggains said.

One play in particular stands out to Loggains.

“What I told them is the play against Georgia on third-and-10 in the rain, playing the No. 1 team in the nation in the rain. And Trey [Knox] drops the ball, [Spencer’s] getting hit in the face and being able to throw that on time, accurately. He anticipated, right there in the biggest game of the year vs. the No. 1 team in the rain. Now everyone’s starting to see it. They see the talent,” Loggains explained.

For his career, Spencer Rattler threw for more than 3,000 yards on three different occasions. He tossed 67 touchdown passes, with 32 picks. Loggains expects Rattler to continue to be successful at the next level.

“You’re getting a guy with high character with a great mom and dad. The biggest thing I told these GMs that called me, these head coaches that called me, about Spencer Rattler, is the ability to overcome adversity and deal with prosperity. Spencer’s done it,” Loggains said.

“To be able to own the bad and praise the good, I think Spencer’s gone through all of that stuff and is better for it. I think he’s fireproof and ready to go.”
