Report: Liverpool wanted to sign £52m Chelsea player but Jurgen Klopp overruled them

Reports have claimed that one top Chelsea player could actually have been featuring for another Premier League side this season.

According to The Times, Liverpool were keen to bring in one player before he went to Stamford Bridge, although Jurgen Klopp seemed to have other ideas.

Chelsea spent big last summer on a number of key players in an attempt to help them climb up the table and put the mid-table mediocrity behind them.

Cole Palmer been brilliant for Chelsea

While some additions such as Cole Palmer have been extremely successful, injuries have really limited the ability of some of them to make an impact on their new side.

One of those is Christopher Nkunku, who was brought in by the Blues with the intention of completely transforming their attack.

They secured a £52m deal to bring him in almost a season before he ended up joining the club, although he picked up a rough injury in the final pre-season game of the tour.

This has plagued him throughout the entire campaign, with him only being able to feature in a handful of games this season.

Liverpool wanted Christopher Nkunku over Darwin Nunez

There were a number of sides interested in signing the France international from RB Leipzig at the time, with one of them now seeming to be Liverpool.

It has been cleared that some of those behind the scenes were pushing for them to bring him in, with him seeming the perfect addition to their squad.

However, Klopp seemed to not agree, and instead pushed hard for his side to bring in Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguay international has certainly had his moments at Anfield, however the plethora of big chances missed is something that has not gone unnoticed.

Nkunku has been spotted back in some sort of team training this week, with it remaining to be seen if he has a part to play in the remaining weeks of the season.
