What is the Yokoze Carp Streamer Festival?

In the past, fireworks displays were held at Wada River until the Taisho era, but after the Great Kanto Earthquake, the fireworks were canceled and the funds raised were used to help victims.

These fireworks have not been seen since then, but they have now evolved into carp streamers and are still flown in the hope that children will enjoy them as they did in the old days.

Approximately 180 carp streamers are hung on four wire ropes spanning the Yokose River, and they swim happily above the river in the spring breeze.

We also fly carp streamers donated by local residents, which are much appreciated by local elementary school students walking across Shimoyokoze Bridge and visitors with children.
