Bayern fans start petition asking Tuchel to remain as coach

Bayern Munich fans have started a petition asking the club bosses to retain Thomas Tuchel as coach for the the next season.

The petition has gathered more than 12,000 signatures as of Friday afternoon and is closing in to the initial target of 15,000.

"Thomas Tuchel never had it easy in Munich. Despite the negative media coverage surrounding him and the personnel situation with the injury-plagued Munich team, the Champions League winner led his team to the semi-finals of the Champions League," the organizers said.

"Considering that the 'Finale Dahoam' (a 'home final' in Munich) will take place next season, Bayern Munich should actually be glad to have such an outstanding Champions League coach like Tuchel."

Tuchel and Bayern will part ways in summer, with the Bavarians at risk of finishing a season without a trophy for the first time in a decade. The Champions League is their last hope, but they first need to overcome Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

"Maybe a few fans want me to stay, but that has no priority and shouldn't either. In the next 11 days, it's only about football. We want to pick up points in the Bundesliga and get to the final of the Champions League. We're fully focused, every day matters," Tuchel said in a news conference on Friday.

Bayern are still looking for a new coach, with Austria coach Ralf Rangnick the favourite to take the job after Xabi Alonso from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said they were staying in their current positions.
