Former NFL offensive tackle Korey Cunningham was found dead at his residence in Clifton, New Jersey, on Thursday, per RLS Media.
He was 28.
Police reportedly responded to the scene shortly before 3:30 p.m. after reports emerged of an unconscious man at the location. Law enforcement informed RSL Media that Cunningham’s death was self-inflicted.
Cunningham, a 2018 seventh round selection of the Arizona Cardinals, played five seasons in the NFL, most recently with the New York Giants in 2022. He suited up in 31 games, making six starts.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Korey Cunningham,” the Giants said in a statement, via Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. “He was a vital part of the spirit and camaraderie of the locker room. Our thoughts are with Korey’s family, friends and teammates.”
Following his release from the Giants this past August, he became a registered agent for K5 LOGISTICS LLC, a New Jersey-based company.
Prior to his NFL career, Cunningham played four seasons at Cincinnati. He appeared in 33 games, starting 24 consecutive games at left tackle in his junior and senior seasons. Cunningham earned Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference honors in 2017.
