How much Liverpool have paid to hire Arne Slot as new manager

By Tom Gott

Liverpool have agreed a compensation package worth up to €15m (£12.9m) to hire Arne Slot as their next manager.

The Reds settled on Slot after a recruitment process which also included a look at Sporting CP's Ruben Amorim and, after a day spent locked in negotiations, struck a deal with Feyenoord to hire the boss this summer.

According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool have agreed to pay €9m (£7.7m) for Slot's services, with a further €2m (£1.7m) in bonuses.

Liverpool have also handed Feyenoord around €4m (£3.4m) for the members of Slot's backroom staff that will follow him to Anfield, taking the total compensation up to around €15m.

Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad reports that Slot will bring his assistants, Etienne Reijnen and Sipke Hulshoff to Liverpool alongside performance coach Ruben Peeters. Hulshoff also works with the Dutch national team and will therefore join up with Liverpool later than the others.

Slot still has three games left to play as Feyenoord manager. His side currently sit second in the Eredivisie standings but, while mathematically still in the title race, have already accepted defeat to PSV Eindhoven, who boast a nine-point lead and a significantly superior goal difference.

Feyenoord face PEC Zwolle, NEC Nijmegen and Excelsior before the Eredivisie comes to a close on May 19, at which point he will switch his focus to his new job at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp still hopes to provide Slot with another trophy before the end of the campaign, but the Carabao Cup winners face an uphill battle to wrestle back control of the Premier League title race.

The shock 2-0 defeat to Everton in midweek saw Liverpool fall three points behind Arsenal with four games left to play, while Manchester City remain in charge with a game in hand that could see them move two points clear at the top.
