'Everything is possible'...Clement dreams of Helicopter Sunday repeat

Philippe Clement has turned Rangers fortunes around this season, even if the recent slump could have been avoided.

The manager is still confident in his team getting over the line though with five cup finals before the real cup final.

Bigger gaps have been closed in the past but if Philippe Clement is to achieve the impossible dream, he could do with some of the devine intervention enjoyed by Rangers teams of the past.

Anything possible as Philippe Clement drops Rangers title memory

“The helicopter is changing direction.”

A day that will live long in the memory of every Rangers fan old enough to witness what was the most dramatic title win in modern history – if not football history.

Few rivalries are as bitter as the Old Firm which makes any final day league wins all the more incredible.

In 2005, Celtic had already celebrated winning the Scottish Premier League, as it was then.

An Old Firm win at Ibrox with four games to go left Celtic with a five point cushion.

Surely they couldn’t lose two of their last four games?

Going into the final round of fixtures though, Rangers knew that all they had to do was better Celtic’s result.

The league table tells us who were the winners but it doesn’t even tell half of the full story.

Which is why Philippe Clement remains confident that his Rangers side can get the job done:

“It can go really fast. In this way also it will be competition with six teams who are close together so all scenarios are possible and it can make a lot of turns still in the five final games.

“Alex told me one he became champion in the last four games when five points behind for example. Everything is possible.

“It is good for you guys that there are a lot of scenarios and things to write about. For us it is about thinking about the next game and doing everything, everything, everything possible to win that game.”

Class of 2024 can draw inspiration from 2005

Rangers had already beaten Hibernian, a 1-0 score line suited both teams as the home side qualified for Europe in third place, as long as they didn’t lost by four goals, they were happy.

All Rangers fans had to do now was wait on the result coming in from Fir Park – a sign of the times that both Old Firm teams were away from home.

Even as the clocked ticked to the 90th minute, Marvin Andrews was still believing.

Just a few minutes later and he was in heaven as Scott McDonald added a second goal to seal Rangers fate and spin the helicopter back towards G51, via Lanarkshire.

Philippe Clement needs something every bit as dramatic this season.

As the manager says, three points isn’t insurmountable but he will need Celtic to slip up or players like Lawrence Shankland to do Rangers a favour.

Just as Alex McLeish did, Clement will also need his own players to keep believing.

All they can do is focus on themselves, concentrate on performance and tick games off one at a time.
