'He's one you want to stick with': Martin Keown says new Manchester United boss must give 21-year-old a chance

Manchester United’s season continues to fizzle out, with the Red Devils conceding late on once again and dropping yet more points in their latest match.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United charges missed out on securing back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since February in their 1-1 home draw to Burnley.

The Red Devils laboured for much of the game, which remained goalless until the latter stages.

Antony gave Manchester United the lead on 79 minutes, but a number of defensive mishaps gave Burnley a way back via a penalty which Zeki Amdouni converted in the 87th minute.

It was a poor display all round for Manchester United, with Rasmus Hojlund sadly unable to make an impact for his side.

The Manchester Evening News gave him just 4 out of 10 for his efforts on the day, writing: ‘United had plenty of first-half chances but none fell to Hojlund.

‘He barely got a kick in the second half and was substituted for Amad.’

However, despite the 21-year-old struggling for form once again, with just one goal in his last six league games, Martin Keown believes the Red Devils should stick with him.

What has Martin Keown said about Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund?

More accurately, the Arsenal legend believes the new Manchester United manager – because he reckons the Red Devils will sack Ten Hag – should stick with Hojlund.

“I think Rasmus Hojlund is surviving in a very difficult environment at Manchester United,” he said on BBC’s Football Focus ahead of the game.

“There was talk earlier in the season of him being unhappy at the service he has had up front but that has been dealt with now, and that is normal, players should speak about those things.

“I think with the current manager looking like he isn’t going to last much longer he is in a difficult position.

“When the new management comes in I think that’s when you see the best of him but he is one you want to stick with in that squad.”

How did Manchester United fare against Burnley?

Manchester United took the lead against the relegation-threatened Clarets in the 79th minute at Old Trafford.

Antony pounced on a Burnley defender’s loose pass, charged through on goal and held off his man to get a shot into the far corner just before he lost balance.

However, Manchester United’s bad habit of conceding late goals reared its ugly head again as mistakes from Casemiro and Andre Onana led to a penalty for the visitors.

Casemiro’s poor attempt at heading the ball clear sent it into the danger zone, where a scrambling Onana attempted to punch away, only to clatter into Zeki Amdouni.

Amdouni stepped up and coolly sent Onana the wrong way in the 87th minute of the match to secure a vital point for Vincent Kompany’s side.
