St Mirren v Rangers team news confirmed: Connor Goldson stays on bench, Dujon Sterling gets moved again

Rangers take on a St Mirren side looking to secure a European place this season and will provide a resolute and well-organised opposition.

The opportunity to put pressure back on Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership will be Philippe Clement’s primary objective with injuries to his squad, again, affecting his line-up.

This is who the Rangers manager has picked to face St Mirren in Paisley with every game now being make or break.

St Mirren v Rangers team news confirmed

Jack Butland didn’t have much to do against Hearts but he made two saves that show why he is a contender for player of the year.

The defence was much improved at Hampden with the inclusion of Leon Balogun.

Connor Goldson might just have been rested but it still sent out a statement to the rest of the squad.

The biggest issue in the back four remains at left-back.

Dujon Sterling looked increasingly comfortable on his last outing and was even getting to the by-line too, it’s a sad indictment of Borna Barisic’s decline that he’s no longer even second choice.

The issues further forward mean that he gets another chance to redeem himself and end his Rangers career on a high though.

With no Ryan Jack, Sterling at right-wing and Nicolas Raskin out the picture, the midfield almost picks itself.

Rangers dominated the middle of the park last week and the relationships between John Lundstram, Mohamed Diomande and Todd Cantwell will be hugely important in the run-in.

As with midfield, the forward line doesn’t have much depth either.

Abdallah Sima is injured again, so is Rabbi Matondo which means that Sterling comes higher up the park and Fabio Silva starts, hopefully he can sort his feet out this week.

Here is your Rangers team to face St Mirren for the short trip to Paisley:

Cyriel Dessers is bang in form and should be high on confidence, if Rangers are to take the title race to the wire, he could be the key.
