‘Way brighter’: TalkSPORT pundit thinks Liverpool youngster has been much better than Mohamed Salah recently

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino feels one Liverpool youngster has looked ‘way brighter’ than Mohamed Salah recently.

Mohamed Salah made the headlines for all the wrong reasons yesterday after clashing with Jurgen Klopp at the London Stadium.

Liverpool dropped points at West Ham after being held to a 2-2 draw and Klopp opted to drop Salah to the bench after a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Everton on Wednesday.

Salah looked disgruntled while waiting to come off the bench in yesterday’s draw at West Ham.

The Egyptian star was waiting to come on just moments before Michail Antonio levelled the scoring.

Klopp was then involved in a confrontation with Salah, which led to Darwin Nunez pushing the Liverpool star away from his boss.

It’s no secret that Salah hasn’t been at his best in recent weeks and Klopp started Harvey Elliott off the right-hand side at West Ham.

Harvey Elliott has been ‘brighter’ than Mohamed Salah

Speaking on talkSPORT [28/04 8:37 am], Tony Cascarino criticised Liverpool’s attacking players, including Salah and Nunez.

The pundit feels Luis Diaz has been Klopp’s best forward of late, while also claiming Elliott has outperformed Salah in recent weeks.

He said: “No, I can’t [see Liverpool challenging for the title now]. A team that gives so many chances to the opposition, West Ham got it yesterday, Everton got it in midweek.

“Liverpool in recent weeks have become a side that has been a bit too comfortable and made mistakes in defensive areas that have cost them dearly. And also these forwards, Nunez and Salah, have gone off the boil.

“Jota has been injured. When he came back, it was short-lived because he was injured again.

“Diaz has been quite comfortably their best forward, Harvey Elliott has looked way brighter than Salah when he has played in the right-wing position. So, it has been a tough end to the season for Liverpool.”

Was Jurgen Klopp right to drop Salah?

While Salah has been the main man for Liverpool during the Klopp era, there’s no getting away from the fact he’s been way below his best of the late.

The 31-year-old has netted just three goals in his last nine games since returning from injury.

Elliott is unlikely to post the numbers Salah has managed over the years but he has looked bright when coming off the bench all season.

Off the back of a disappointing display at Goodison Park, you can understand why Klopp was keen to switch things up in attack.

Liverpool have been wasteful in the final third of late and Salah has been unlike his usual self in front of goal.

With that being said, it was a real shame to see him and Klopp clash yesterday. The duo have achieved so much together during their time at Anfield and it would be disappointing for Liverpool fans to see things end this way.
