Lionel Messi sets another astonishing MLS record after 4-1 Inter Miami win vs New England

Lionel Messi set yet another MLS record this weekend after Inter Miami’s 4-1 win against the New England Revolution.

The Herons made it three wins in a row since crashing out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup with Messi once again inspiring Inter Miami to an impressive victory on the road in front of a record New England crowd of over 65,000 fans.

Having won praise last week from Tomas Aviles for his display against Nashville SC, Messi was again incredible for the Florida franchise as the 36-year-old scored twice and provided another two assists for Benjamin Cremaschi and Luis Suarez.

And to the surprise of nobody, Messi ended up breaking yet another MLS record.

Messi becomes first MLS player to record multiple goal contributions in five straight matches

As per MLS’s official website, Messi last night broke the record of becoming the first player in league history to record multiple goal contributions in five consecutive matches, a feat that only the Argentine could achieve.

Indeed, Messi returning to full fitness and playing just one game a week has been a godsend for Inter Miami, who simply look unstoppable with the reigning Ballon d’Or holder in the type of form that has made the forward the greatest of all time.

And the South American breaking the MLS goal contribution record is perhaps no real surprise, with Messi just as good assisting his teammates as he is scoring goals, with Cremaschi and Suarez benefiting hugely last night.

With another win under their belt, Inter Miami go three points clear in the Supporters’ Shield standings, and Messi will be thinking about how far can he extend his record before heading to the Copa America.

Messi could single-handily wrap up playoff spot for the Herons

Messi is in full flow with Inter Miami having now gotten over his injury problems and found his rhythm with the MLS franchise with the schedule now looking a lot more kinder for the Argentine international.

And with the Herons in this sort of form, there’s a real chance that Messi alone could wrap up a playoff spot for Inter Miami before this summer, where the attacker could miss over a month of action.

No team has come close to besting Inter Miami since Messi’s return from injury, and last night’s record-breaking performance again showed that the Herons could go on an incredible run in the weeks to come.
