In an exclusive interview with Rousing the Kop, Julian Jenner has explained what makes Arne Slot different to Erik ten Hag.
Ever since Arne Slot has emerged as the successor to Jurgen Klopp’s throne at Liverpool, there have been some sceptics.
Recently, the bridge between the Eredivisie to the Premier League has been a tough one to cross for coaches. The most acute example would be Erik ten Hag’s lack of success at Manchester United so far.
Naturally, this would raise some question marks over the appointment of Slot for Liverpool. However, according to Dutch coach Julian Jenner, there should be no concerns. Slot and Ten Hag are completely different.
Julian Jenner on what makes Arne Slot different to Ten Hag
Jenner worked at AZ Alkmaar while Arne Slot was at the Eredivisie club. He was also teammates with Slot at NAC Breda. But the former Dutch winger, also worked at Ajax while Ten Hag was at the club.
He is therefore perfectly well placed to share his honest opinion about the two managers. And in an exclusive interview he revealed to Rousing the Kop, what makes Slot different to Ten Hag.
“He’s the number one [coach in the Netherlands] at the moment. A lot of people will envy him and how he is playing. They copy his style. He’s an innovator,” Jenner said.
“Ten Hag has a different style. I think Slot is more of a character. He has more character. He has more confidence. So that’s the difference. He really believes in his style of football.
“I think Slot can handle legends and I think Ten Hag has that a lot less. He has a lot of humour too, that’s very important. He doesn’t take life too seriously.”
Can Arne Slot succeed at Liverpool?
Slot plays a similar style to Jurgen Klopp and has been very successful in the Eredivisie. At 45-years-old he has everything he needs to be a success at Liverpool.
With Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes’ backing, he will be provided with all the support he needs at the club.
It won’t be an easy task, but Slot is a big character with clear principles and he seems like the perfect candidate to succeed Klopp.
