Report: 27-year-old Liverpool defender could finally leave the club this summer, a new club wants to sign him

One Liverpool defender could be on the move this summer with a new club interested in him.

It’s a new era at Anfield and changes will be afoot at Liverpool. Not only will there be a new coaching team and a new manager coming in, but also new players.

It’s expected that there will be a few changes when it comes to Liverpool’s squad. Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will not only be looking at potential new arrivals, but they will also be exploring the market to sell some of Liverpool’s current squad players.

That was what Edwards used to do so brilliantly at Liverpool prior to his departure. And now alongside Hughes they will be looking to offload players again.

This could include Liverpool’s 27-year-old defender, for whom a move has been on the cards for a while now.

The latest reports about Nathaniel Phillips

Nathaniel Phillips has been at Liverpool for a long time. He will be regarded as a bit of a cult hero in the way he often stepped up when needed for Liverpool over the years.

However, at 27-years-old, it’s now clear that the next stage for him should be a permanent move away from the club for the sake of his career.

Selling him will be a priority for Edwards and Hughes, and they will be hoping to rake in as much profit as possible.

Which is why it might be music to the ears of Edwards and Hughes that a new club in Leeds United are apparently interested in Phillips’ services.

Leeds look likely to be promoted to the Premier League next season, which means they will have the funds to secure a transfer for Phillips.

And according to Darren Witcoop, Leeds have identified Phillips as a potential transfer target.

Why Nathaniel Philllips will be remembered as a cult hero

Phillips may not have played a lot of games for Liverpool. But he played at a time of great need, when Liverpool didn’t have any fit centre-backs during the 2020/21 season.

The way he valiantly put his body on the line and did his best will always be remembered fondly at Anfield.

He has been a very useful squad player over the years, but letting him go now is definitely the best decision Liverpool could make.
