'Absurd': Sacha Kljestan already in disbelief with what Lionel Messi has done at Inter Miami this season

Sacha Kljestan has said Lionel Messi has already done something ‘absurd’ this season with Inter Miami after Saturday’s win against the New England Revolution.

The reigning Ballon d’Or holder was again magnificent in MLS this weekend with Messi scoring a brace and assisting another two away to New England, with some home fans even seen bowing towards the Inter Miami star.

With Messi breaking yet another MLS record in the process, it was another game to remember for the Argentine international, who has never looked better for Inter Miami with the forward fully fit and only playing just one game a week.

And Kljestan has now said Messi has done something that is simply incredible.

Kljestan stunned by Messi’s goal contribution numbers for Inter Miami this season

Speaking on MLS Wrap-Up, the former USA international and league legend went in on how insane Messi’s goal contribution numbers have been in his first seven games this season for Inter Miami.

With 16 already, Messi’s numbers are as good as what many top players in MLS would register in a single season, yet with just 11 games played, there’s no telling how far the Argentine international could go with this incredible stat.

And Kljestan was in awe over seeing Messi’s numbers for the season, with the former FC Barcelona star besting the midfielder’s former New York Red Bulls teammate Thierry Henry in some style.

Kljestan said: “In 2008, I made the MLS Best XI as a midfielder with five goals and seven assists, 12 goal contributions. He [Messi] has played a good full season in just seven games, it’s absurd.”

Messi is on another planet compared to everyone in MLS

Even at 36, Messi is showing everyone in MLS why he is considered the greatest player of all time, with the forward putting up numbers that are breaking records on a weekly basis and getting everyone talking about Inter Miami.

And of the attacker can stay fit, there’s every reason to believe that Messi can break the single-season goal contribution record as well as lead Inter Miami to MLS Cup at the end of the year.

Indeed, Messi has truly arrived in America in recent weeks, and the Florida franchise will be hopeful that the Argentine international can stay fit head into the Copa America break later this summer.
