'He's not ready': Ian Wright not impressed by £15m Nottingham Forest player yesterday

Ian Wright has criticised one Nottingham Forest player after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City yesterday.

TheCity Ground hasn’t quite been a fortress this season – but yesterday, Forest were a little bit unlucky.

Forest missed a host of chances to take the lead and eventually lost after goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland.

Things could have been a lot different on another day and for Forest, the fight for survival goes on.

After the game yesterday, Wright criticised one Forest performer and highlighted where he went wrong on the day.

Ian Wright slams Chris Wood for Nottingham Forest showing

Well, this might sound a little bit harsh but the £15 million Wood probably does deserve some critique after his performance yesterday.

The chances he missed are akin to ones he’s been tucking away all season and he won’t look back on this with too much fondness.

Wright felt that Wood didn’t cover himself in too much glory and included a review of him in his post-match analysis.

He told The Wrighty’s House Podcast: “When you see the chances Chris Wood misses, he has just executed wrong.

“The first one which comes across the goal, when you do that kind of practice, the main thing you are thinking about is that you are so close to the goal. Sort your feet out. You have to get good contact, be on your toes and he wasn’t, so what happens is he’s missed it because he’s not ready.

“The same thing that happened with the first one happened with the second one. The ball came across again, he can see the whole path of the ball – and I haven’t got a problem with somebody where the ball flashes past a defender and then you miss it – but he could see the ball all the way with both of these chances.”

Wood deserves a break from Forest fan base

Let’s not overreact here.

This was a bad afternoon for Wood but ultimately, without his goals this season, Forest would be relegated already!

In the absence of Taiwo Awoniyi, he’s really stepped up to the plate and the goals will surely return.

Wood had a bad afternoon during the clash against Manchester City but he hasn’t all of a sudden become a bad player.

The striker has scored some very important goals this season and once again some Forest fans are now saying he’s not good enough.

In our view, that notion is completely ridiculous and Wood was clearly upset to miss the chances which he did against City yesterday.
