Report: 'Excellent' 19-year-old is now in talks to sign new Newcastle United contract, he's changed agent

Newcastle United have tied Joelinton down to a new contract, and are now working on even more deals behind the scenes.

There was delight on Tyneside when it was confirmed that Joelinton had extended his stay at St James’ Park, as there were fears that he may have to leave this summer.

That was because his previous deal expired in 2025, meaning this summer was the last chance to get some money for him or risk losing him for nothing next year. Given the fact he is so talented and cost £40million in 2019, letting him leave on a free would have been a disaster.

Fortunately, Joelinton is staying. And the same goes for Mark Gillespie, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

Elsewhere, the club would like Alexander Isak to sign a new deal, while a fresh report has detailed yet another Newcastle United player who could be offered fresh terms to remain on Tyneside.

Newcastle United teenager in talks over new contract

The club have bought some impressive youngsters in recent years, one of which is Alex Murphy.

The 19-year-old defender has now made two Premier League appearances for the Magpies, and looks like a really promising talent.

And that is why the club want him to sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring in 2025.

According to the Chronicle, Murphy and Newcastle United are in talks over a new deal, with the club hopeful that the Irish teenager will agree to their proposal.

Interestingly, the Chronicle note that Murphy has actually changed his agent recently. The state that he is now represented by Wasserman, who also have Eddie Howe, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento on their list of clients.

Alex Murphy looks incredibly promising for Newcastle United

Toon officials clearly believe that Murphy has a future at St James’ Park, otherwise they would simply look to cash in this summer and get some money for him.

But the left-footed defender has done really well since arriving in the North East, and has been rewarded with a couple of Premier League cameos. He looked comfortable on Saturday against Sheffield United, and it was great to see the penalty given against him be overturned.

Murphy has predominantly played at left-back for Howe, who was really impressed with him in pre-season. He called him ‘excellent’ after a great showing against Chelsea, and he has been a regular in first-team squads ever since.

The youngster has made quite the impression since arriving from Galway United in 2022, and will hope to make even more senior appearances in the coming years.

He could even end up saving Newcastle United a lot of money, with a previous report claiming that the club think he can be similar to Sven Botman. That is high praise, and suggests that he could even go on to become a Premier League regular.
