Tourist explains the 'culture shock' she had when visiting an American restaurant and ordering water

Americans have a way of doing things, including how they like plain water. But people from other parts of the world find it strange.

Europeans had a similar reaction when they learned about the American way of boiling water, which they think is “ridiculous”. You be the judge of the topic we’re discussing today.

American way of drinking plain water is a ‘cultural shock’ to tourist

Several non-Americans have echoed a TikTok user’s sentiments about how people in the US like drinking plain water.

TikTok user @christinepaints was at an American restaurant when she was served a glass full of drinking water with ice cubes.

She said, she has traveled to different parts of the world and called it a “cultural shock” when she was served iced water at an American restaurant.

Several non-American users have expressed similar disbelief about the practice which is common in the West, even in winters.

@christinepaints said it was winter in the US when she traveled, and a tall glass of iced water wasn’t among the things she expected.

People from the US argue otherwise

TikTok users from the US have taken it upon themselves to justify their liking for iced water.

When someone asked “Why do Americans need ice in everything? Is it to mask the taste of your water?”, a TikTok user gave a tour of their kitchen to prove the question wrong.

TikTok user just_a_mink first shows the kitchen sink with a tap running – the source of drinking water, followed by a trip to the refrigerator to show the freezer with ice cubes made out of the same water.

Seconding the above response, another TikTok user from America said they like adding ice cubes to their water to keep it chill, and there’s nothing weird or unusual about it as people from elsewhere in the world think.
