There's credence'... Newly promoted English club interest in Celtic 'top talent' backed up

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will have one eye on a squad reshuffle this summer as the 2023/24 campaign ticks down at Parkhead.

With four Scottish Premiership matches remaining, the Bhoys are still sitting pretty at the top of the table heading into our final stretch of post-split fixtures.

Nevertheless, it is easy to forget that the transfer window will soon be open for business, leaving Rodgers with several decisions over the future of individuals who are set to return to Lennoxtown.

Mikey Johnston and Marco Tilio are two men with uncertain Parkhead futures. The former is set to be a topic of discussion amid his seven goals on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

On the same lines, Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Bosun Lawal is returning to Lennoxtown following a successful spell in Sky Bet League One at Fleetwood Town despite suffering relegation.

Per Transfermarkt, Lawal featured on 43 occasions across all competitions, registering six goals and two assists after finding his feet in a new midfield role.

Labelled a ‘top talent’ by loan boss Charlie Adam, the 20-year-old has attracted attention from several sides in the second and third tiers of English football keen to entice the Irishman back down south with the offer of another season-long loan agreement.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that Queens Park Rangers, newly promoted Portsmouth, and Derby County, to whom that tag extends, are among the frontrunners for his signature.

Portsmouth’s interest in Celtic man Bosun Lawal firmed up

According to Hampshire publication The News, Portsmouth are monitoring Lawal’s situation as they plan a squad rebuild after being crowned Sky Bet League One champions.

In all likelihood, Lawal will first travel back to Glasgow ahead of participating in pre-season at Celtic before they decide on his suitability within the first-team fold or whether a further loan stint may benefit his development.

Some in the Hoops’ support have suggested that the Dublin-born man could play a role in the engine room next term, though it remains to be seen if Rodgers extends an olive branch to the youngster.

Should he embark on another spell away from Parkhead, Portsmouth would be an ideal destination due to their status as a sizeable club on the South Coast, who will have ambitions of working their way up the table and mounting a potential playoff push.
