BYU forward Jaxson Robinson has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. Going through this process is nothing new for the fourth-year player, who has previously entered the portal twice. But with head coach Mark Pope leaving the program in favor of Kentucky, Robinson will play the 2024-2025 season elsewhere.

Robinson was BYU’s leading scorer from a season ago, averaging 14.2 points per game. He shot well at all three levels, making 42.6% from the field, 35.4% from three, and made 90.8% of his free throw attempts.

Pope brought Robinson off the bench and as a result, he won the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year award — the Cougars’ first season in the conference.

Robinson played high school basketball at Ada (OK) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 82 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Texas A&M won his original high school recruitment, signing with Buzz Williams. But after one season, he moved to Arkansas to play for somebody who loves utilizing the transfer portal, Eric Musselman. One season was spent in Fayetteville as well before moving to BYU for the 2022-2023 season.

Around a week ago, Robinson also entered his name in the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining his eligibility. Maybe his plans have changed since he has now decided to test the portal waters.

“First and foremost, I would like to give all glory to God, without him none of this would be possible,” Robinson said in a statement. “I want to thank my amazing parents, who have been a blessing and made every effort to help me pursue my dream. I would like to thank Cougar Nation, coaching staff, trainers, my teammates, and professors who helped me grow so much as a person these past two years period to all my family and friends, all my past teammates, coaches, and trainers, thank you for your continued love and support,” said Robinson.

“Having said that, I will be pursuing my dream and declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life and what God has in store for me.”

Of course, Kentucky is going to be a school heavily linked with Robinson due to his connection with Pope. If the Wildcats can pull it off, Robinson would be one of the biggest commitments of the cycle.
