£350,000 per week star is no longer being considered untouchable at Manchester United, it could be a wake up call

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford faces an uncertain future at the club, which had recently seemed unthinkable.

Marcus Rashford‘s career at Manchester United began in a spectacular manner, travelling on a fast-track one-way trajectory from the academy to the very top.

But from around his third season, and Jose Mourinho‘s second, Rashford has been caught up on the never-ending rollercoaster at Old Trafford, where his career goes up and down with alarming inconsistency.

Last season was the peak, in which he struck a career best 30 goals. Rashford also signed a new contract, earning a staggering £350,000 per week.

Latest claims on Marcus Rashford future

Changes are afoot at Manchester United, as there seem to be every summer. This time, it is a little different, with new investors Ineos calling the shots.

Newspaper reports have been casting doubts over Rashford’s future at the club. Last week The Mirror claimed only 10 players are guaranteed to stay at Manchester United, and the forward was not among the names.

Yesterday, The Telegraph reported Manchester United are prepared to listen to offers for almost every player, including Marcus Rashford.

A similar report from The Athletic toned down United’s stance, insisting the club prefer for Rashford to stay, and try to recapture his best form. He has scored only eight times this season.

However, the outlet also claim United would consider letting Rashford go if a ‘substantial offer’ arrives and Rashford tells the club he wants to leave.

Marcus Rashford not untouchable

Go back to Manchester United’s glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson, and compare and contrast. Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes were all considered unsellable, no matter what offer came in.

It is remarkable that Rashford finished last season as top scorer, signed a new long-term deal, and is being considered as for sale at the right price.

Rashford, 26, is clearly not happy. He sent a message late at night last week, hitting out at criticism he had received, citing ‘abuse’. This prompted plenty of reaction from fans.

Manchester United’s stance opens the door, if he wants out, and there’s an offer, the club will not stand in his way.

This might hasten Rashford’s desire to leave. Or it could act as a major wake-up call.

Manchester United will not bend to his will. The club won’t make exceptions for him, he has to perform, and justify his salary. He has set the standards of what he is capable of, and supporters want him to get back to that.

Most of all, we want to see him playing with a smile on his face, and working hard. He is currently out of action with an injury, and has plenty of time to contemplate and reflect on his difficult season, and his future.
