College Station was the center of attention for college baseball on Monday. Not just because No. 1 Texas A&M was looking to complete a sweep of Georgia. But some controversy came out of the Bulldogs bullpen because of Christian Mracna, with Jomboy providing a breakdown.

Mracna was called upon in the eighth inning with a runner on first base, looking to protect a one-run Georgia lead. He got out of the situation before coming back out in the ninth and closing out the game, giving the program a huge win.

However, people were quick to notice that Mracna may have been using sticky stuff. It first came from a video filmed in the bullpen and then Jomboy explained how it was reapplied once Mracna was out there on the mound.

Mracna has made 13 appearances this season for Georgia, throwing 36 innings. He’s allowed just 19 runs — 16 of which are earned runs — on 33 hits and three home runs. His strike-out-to-walk ratio is just over 2/1 as well, punching out 57 batters while walking just 22.

Sunday’s appearance might have been his best though, striking out all six batters in his two innings pitched. But there appear to be questions surrounding it.

Of course, sticky stuff has been outlawed in Major League Baseball, being a huge talking point when banned. Pitchers, such as former Tampa Bay Ray and now-Los Angeles Dodgers Tyler Glasnow, spoke against the league banning substances in the middle of the season, saying it could have been correlated with him getting injured and missing a significant amount of time.

The NCAA has similar rules, stating substances are not allowed to be used by pitchers. However, there has not been as big of a crackdown in college baseball compared to MLB.

According to Travis Brown of The Eagle, the SEC office in Birmingham is aware of the videos circulating on social media. No action has been taken nor has any official commented on the situation.

Georgia’s next game will take place on the road, with Kennesaw State hosting the Bulldogs. Vanderbilt will be the next SEC opponent, hoping to get back over .500 in conference play. Mracna likely will continue to be a big part of the pitching depth, hoping to continue his nice outings for head coach Wes Johnson.
