From Daniel Podence to Chiquinho: Find out how every Wolves loanee faired this campaign

Find out how each Wolves player has performed on loan for their clubs throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

Wolves have enjoyed a bright first season under the guidance of Gary O’Neil. Despite being tipped for relegation at the start of the campaign, the Molineux side could still finish in the top half.

While the Wolves manager and the squad will look back on the season as a success, there are plenty of players on the books who have had different experiences.

Out on loan, the club have multiple outcasts and youngsters trying to prove to O’Neil that they have what it takes to break into Wolves’ first-team.

While some names are more prominent like Daniel Podence and Goncalo Guedes, others may be more unknown. Nevertheless, many talents have shown plenty of promise throughout the campaign and could well break into O’Neil’s side next season.

Below, this article lists every major Wolves player who is currently out on loan and what they achieved throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

Fabio Silva

Despite taking hold of the famous Wolves number nine shirt at the start of the season, Fabio Silva was quickly cast out of O’Neil’s plans.

With the striker struggling for first-team minutes, the 21-year-old was sent to Scottish side Rangers until the end of the season. However, north of the border, his fortunes have not changed.

In 20 games in all competitions, the striker has only been able to muster four goals. In April, Fabio Silva went viral for a terrible miss against Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

While the former Wolves record-signing could still walk away with a Premiership title and a Scottish Cup, the striker has had little success in Scotland.

Joe Hodge

The Irish youngster was another player struggling for game time at the start of the 2023/24 campaign due to the form of the Wolves first team.

As a result, Joe Hodge was sent out to Championship side QPR on loan until the rest of the season. The London club were struggling near the foot of the table when the midfielder arrived. However, they have now secured their survival with one game to spare.

Despite a bright start that saw Hodge score on his QPR debut, his time on the pitch has diminished in recent weeks. The midfielder has not been given minutes for his past five games and wasn’t even in the squad on matchday 45.

Luke Cundle

Another bright, young midfielder. Luke Cundle originally started the season out on loan to newly promoted Plymouth. After a successful first few months, he then moved to Stoke City on loan joining up with former manager Steve Schumacher.

His performances at the Potters were less fruitful as the club were dragged into a relegation battle. However, after being dropped, Cundle has worked himself back into the team and netted a vital equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday in April.

As a result, Stoke and Cundle are now safe from relegation.

Chiquinho

After a failed loan spell to Stoke was quickly cut short, Chiquinho was sent out to Portuguese side F.C. Famalicão.

Here, the winger has enjoyed success. The upcoming star has netted five times in 23 games for the club. This includes a spectacular overhead kick from Chiquinho earlier this year.

With the season coming to an end in Portugal, the winger looks set to have guided the team to a solid mid-table finish.

Chem Campbell

Another player who is on his second loan spell this season. Wolves academy graduate Chem Campbell was originally on loan to League One side Charlton until this spell was cut short in January.

As a result, the forward returned to Wycombe Wanderers where he enjoyed a brief loan last season. However, a series of poor performances has seen him dropped from the team yet again.

The 21-year-old is yet to find the net for the Chairboys and he has not been selected on the bench in Wycombe’s past five league matches.

Yerson Mosquera

Arguably one of Wolves’ most promising players is currently away from the club. Yerson Mosquera joined Spanish side Villarreal in January after a successful loan at MLS side FC Cincinnati.

The Colombian centre-back has since become a vital player for the Spanish side and is now a regular in the starting line-up for Villarreal. Mosquera was hailed as ‘tremendous’ after he scored his first La Liga goal in late April.

As a result of his form, Villarreal are in the race to secure European football at the end of the campaign.

O’Neil has also taken notice of his talents. The Wolves manager has hinted that the defender could play a role for Wolves in the next campaign.

Louie Moulden

The young ‘keeper has earned plenty of praise so far this campaign. The 22-year-old spent the first half of the season out on loan to non-league side Rochdale where he shone.

As a result, Louie Moulden earned a loan move to League One side Northampton. Here, he has made plenty of appearances throughout the campaign and saw out a fantastic clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Derby.

Now the campaign has closed, Moulden helped Northampton secure a 14th place finish in League One.

Dexter Lembikisa

The young full-back endured a torrid time at Rotherham United at the start of the season. This resulted in the 20-year-old being recalled from his loan spell and sent to Scottish side Hearts.

North of the border, Dexter Lembikisa has enjoyed plenty of success. The defender has instantly become a regular, with Hearts yet to lose when the youngster has started.

This form has also carried over to the international level. Lemikisa netted a fantastic goal for Jamaica as the Caribbean nation finished third in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Nigel Lonwijk

Nigel Lonwijk has quickly become a fan-favourite at Wycombe since joining the club on loan in January.

The Dutch centre-back was originally sent out to Swiss side Grasshopper on loan until a hamstring injury cut this journey short.

As a result, the 21-year-old joined the Chairboys where he found instant success. Despite being a defender, Lonwijk has netted twice in 11 League appearances. This includes an incredible overhead kick against rivals Reading in March.

Now the season has come to an end, Lonwijk helped the side finish 10th in League One as well as runners up in the EFL trophy.

Daniel Podence

Wolves’ top scorer last season became an outcast in the 2023/24 campaign. The tricky winger was sent out on loan to Greek side Olympiacos at the start of the season where he has stayed ever since.

By the Mediterranean, Daniel Podence has enjoyed a terrific season, netting double-figure goals and stands within an outside chance of winning the title. The Portuguese international could also lift the Europa Conference League as he is set to take on Aston Villa in the semi-finals.

However, it is unlikely that Wolves fans will see the winger at the club again. Podence has already made it clear that he wants to stay at Olympiacos past his loan spell.

Sasa Kalajdzic

Much like Fabio Silva, Sasa Kalajdzic was sent out on loan after struggling to break into the Wolves team in the first half of the campaign.

This resulted in the Austrian striker being sent out on loan to German side Frankfurt where he scored his first goal in the Europa Conference League.

However, in February, Kalajdzic suffered another ACL injury which ended his season. The striker is on the mend. Recently, Kalajdzic released a positive update on his recovery from injury.

Bendegúz Bolla

Wolves’ Hungarian international has yet to play a game for the club since signing in 2021.

Bendeguz Bolla currently finds himself at Swiss side Servette where he has been since the start of the season.

However, like Podence, it is unlikely that Wolves fans will ever see right-back play, with Servette having the option to purchase the Bolla, who has been a regular throughout the season.

Justin Hubner

Justin Hubner had been in and around O’Neil’s first team this season with the young centre-back being named on the bench at the Emirates.

In March, the 20-year-old was sent on loan to Japanese side Cerezo Osaka who are top of the league.

With the Japanese league set to continue throughout the summer, Hubner could still yet play a big part in the campaign.

Ki-Jana Hoever

Another Wolves player who has spent much of his season at Stoke. Ki-Jana Hoever went back to the Potters after a successful spell at the club at the back end of last season.

Here, the right-back continued his good form to ensure that Stoke were not relegated to League One.

According to WhoScored, the 22-year-old has the highest average rating of anyone still at the club.

Gonçalo Guedes

Once seen as a statement signing by Wolves, things could not have gone worse for Guedes. The winger spent a year at Benfica which ended in January resulting in Guedes’ loan to Villarreal.

Here, the 27-year-old has enjoyed more football and he scored past Barcelona back in January.

Recent reports have suggested that Villarreal are interested in purchasing Guedes at the end of his loan.
