Report: 25-year-old Chelsea player has been learning to be a coach alongside Thiago Silva

Reports have claimed that another first team player at Chelsea has actually been learning to become a coach.

According to the Mail Online, one of Thiago Silva’s teammates has been working alongside him to fulfil some of the practical elements of the coaching course.

Thiago Silva announces Chelsea exit

Silva announced yesterday via the club that he would be moving on from Chelsea when his contract expires at the end of the season.

In an emotional message to supporters, the veteran defender hinted his time at Stamford Bridge may not yet have come to an end, and that he would love to return in the future.

This would likely be in some sort of coaching capacity, and it appears he is not the only member of the squad who is looking to set himself up for a career after his playing days.

Marc Cucurella learning to become a coach

The report goes on to say that Marc Cucurella has also been learning through the PFA to become a coach in the future.

The Spaniard has begun to play a more crucial role for current manager Mauricio Pochettino ever since he returned earlier this year from injury.

This has been crucial after vice-captain Ben Chilwell has struggled to maintain his fitness for the majority of the campaign, leaving them short of options in the left-back position for large parts of this season.

Leadership at the back is something the Blues are going to be absent of in the wake of Silva leaving the club, with the rest of the options who feature in the centre of defence lacking in either age or experience.

This could prove an opportunity for Cucurella to step up and assume the role of leader at the back, and the fact he is learning how to coach could give him the skills needed to do the best job possible.
