'Definitely': Ipswich Town star now confident his side will finish above Leeds United in second

Ipswich Town have the chance to overtake Leeds United on Tuesday night when they face Coventry City and one Ipswich star believes his side will get the job done.

Leeds currently sit in second place despite last Friday’s dismal 4-0 defeat to QPR at Loftus Road while Ipswich remain in third after being held to a 3-3 draw away at Hull City, but they did go level on points.

Kieran McKenna’s men still boast a game in hand over Leeds and that comes in the form of Tuesday night’s trip to Coventry. All Ipswich need to do to go above Daniel Farke’s side is to avoid defeat.

If the Tractor Boys manage that then they go into the final weekend of the season against an already-relegated Huddersfield side with promotion pretty much in the bag, while Leeds take on Southampton.

Tuesday night’s clash is a huge one in deciding who follows Leicester in promotion to the Premier League and Ipswich are in the driving seat. Jack Taylor believes his side will get the job done at Coventry.

He spoke to BBC Radio Suffolk ahead of the game and is confident that his side will finish in the top two and secure promotion to the Premier League ahead of Leeds if Ipswich stick to what they do all season.

Despite failing to win in the last four games, Taylor is confident of securing the right result. Here is what the Ipswich ace said ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Coventry.

Ipswich star Taylor confident his side will finish above Leeds

“We’re all really focused on getting the job done. We know what’s on the line. We’re going for the win, like we have all season. As long as we stick to our system and principles, we’ll definitely get the job done.

“It’s probably worked out better, rather than sealing the deal at Coventry. It will be special but we’ve got to stay level-headed and know we’ve got a very important game tomorrow night,” Taylor said pre-match.

Ipswich could be without assist machine and former Leeds defender Leif Davis after he was subbed off with an injury during Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Hull City on Saturday, after laying on a 21st assist.

Gary Lineker and Micah Richards discuss the battle for second

The race for second is a real talking point in the footballing world at the moment and both Lineker and Richards discussed it on their The Rest Is Football podcast ahead of Tuesday night’s crucial encounter.

But if Leeds fans were looking for a crumb of comfort, they won’t find it from the Match of the Day duo. Lineker says he feels sympathy for Leeds and Richards is “devastated”, having a soft spot for Leeds.

Leeds’ defeat to QPR has proved damaging and while there is still a chance, there is always hope but realistically Farke has got to be preparing his squad to get ready for the Championship play-offs.
