'We’ll do whatever it takes': Ryan Reynolds makes Wrexham promotion claim ahead of summer transfer window

Wrexham are back in League One for the first time in nearly 20 years and Ryan Reynolds is seeming gunning for even more success in the near future.

If you had asked any Wrexham fan about promotion to League One even five years ago, you probably would have been met with a few raised eyebrows.

Wrexham had flirted with promotion back to the EFL but had been stuck in the National League for more than a decade, hoping to find a way out.

In came Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, transforming Wrexham into a ‘Hollywood club’ and completely changing the trajectory of the club.

Wrexham have now secured back-to-back promotions and fans can look forward to a first season back in the third tier since 2005.

The Wrexham story has captured attention from all across the world with the arrival of McElhenney and Reynolds sparking a wave of international fans, especially from America.

The hope is that Wrexham will continue this incredible rise over the coming years – and Reynolds isn’t looking to wait around.

Ryan Reynolds shares Wrexham plans

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Stockport County brought Wrexham’s season to an end and a big summer is on the cards.

From the new series of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ dropping this week to contract decisions, the transfer window and big pre-season friendlies, the coming months will be huge for Wrexham.

Reynolds has now spoken to ESPN about Wrexham and the potential plans for next season.

When asked whether Wrexham would consolidate and settle in League One for a little while, Reynolds completely ruled out that idea.

Reynolds claims that Wrexham will instead focus full energy on getting promoted again, claiming that he and McElhenney will ‘do whatever it takes’ to go up again.

Reynolds noted that Wrexham are ‘going for broke’ in an attempt to reach the Championship, seemingly hitting towards a big summer transfer window to come.

“No, we’re going for broke,” said Reynolds. “We must get promoted and that is… every cell in our body is engineered right now towards that goal and we’ll do whatever it takes to get there. That’s all we’re thinking about when it comes to the club at the moment,” he added.

Another promotion is a big ask for Wrexham

We love the ambition and mentality of Reynolds and it’s clear that he has a real passion to see Wrexham go as high as possible.

However, we also have to be a little realistic and accept that Wrexham will be going up against some huge clubs.

Consolidating for a year or two isn’t the worst idea in the world and certainly wouldn’t indicate a lack of ambition.

Many Wrexham players have either never played in League One or haven’t played at this level for a while, so the step up is a big ask.

That means Wrexham either need to trust in those players to step up or invest in some big signings to make a massive difference.

Reynolds saying that Wrexham are ‘going for broke’ may even leave some concerned about overspending and there does need to be a balance between the club’s long-term future and the hopes for an immediate rise.
