Report: Tottenham make contact over £17m Xabi Alonso target who's outscoring Cole Palmer this season

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the summer transfer market as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his ranks further.

Spurs are having a better season than was the case last term, when they limped to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.

However, there’s still considerable work to do at Tottenham, as proven by a number of poor displays and defeats in recent weeks.

One squad area Tottenham could look to bolster is in attack, with an out-and-out striker potentially on the cards.

And according to a report from Germany, Spurs have made contact over a 23-year-old striker who has more goals than Cole Palmer this season.

The player in question is Cercle Brugge forward and Togo international Kevin Denkey, who has 25 goals in all club competitions this term.

A few days ago, Cercle technical director Rembert Vromant told Het Laatste Nieuws that Tottenham and Aston Villa are among the clubs looking at his squad.

Now, Fussball Transfers have reported that Spurs have ‘put out feelers’ for Denkey ahead of a potential approach in the summer transfer window.

As well as Tottenham, the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli are said to also be in pursuit of the 6ft striker, who also has four goals in 25 Togo outings.

Cercle Brugge reportedly want €20million (£17million) for Denkey, which would be a club record fee.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Kevin Denkey?

Born in Lome, Kevin Denkey began his career at French club Nimes before being sold to Cercle Brugge in 2020.

The 23-year-old has improved with each passing season at the Belgian club. He has 26 goals from 35 outings in all competitions this term, more than Chelsea’s Palmer.

Last term, Denkey netted 13 goals, while in his first two seasons at the club, he registered a combined 11 goals in all competitions.

The Scouting App wrote earlier this season: ‘Denkey is a complete striker profile, versatile to adapt to different roles.

‘He mainly performs as center forward, but can play next to the side line as winger, preferably in the right side, as he possesses verticality and ability to unbalance and open up defenses.

‘He is a physical and clever player, with a huge goalscoring nose and adaptability to different attacking systems.’
