Prince William says family are ‘all doing well’ amid Princess Catherine’s cancer treatment

Prince William says his family are “doing well” amid his wife’s preventative cancer treatment.

The heir to the throne, 41, who has children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and six-year-old Prince Louis with Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, gave the update on her condition as he visited a male suicide prevention charity in Newcastle on Tuesday. (30.04.24)

William was asked by 60-year-old Julie Cain outside the James’ Place centre: “Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?”

The royal replied: “All doing well, thank you. Yes, we’re doing well.”

William visited James’ Place Newcastle on Tuesday to hear about how the charity is giving free, life-saving treatment and support to help prevent male suicide

During his visit, he also met a toddler who pretended it was his birthday to grab his attention – with a three-year-old called Kevin shaking the prince’s hand and asking him if he had eaten any cake.

Staff at Little Lotus Nursery confessed it was not actually Kevin's birthday - and the little boy had been so excited to chat to William that he lied.

The trip followed a visit to a school in the West Midlands last week to highlight the importance of reducing the stigma around male mental health.

James’ Place centre is one of several belonging to the charity set up by the family of James Wentworth-Stanley who took his life aged 21 in 2006.

James’ brother is Harry Wentworth-Stanley who in June 2022 married Cressida Bonas, the former girlfriend of Prince William’s younger brother Prince Harry.

During his visit to the St Michael’s Church of England High School in Rowley Regis, William met with pupil Freddie Hadley, who wrote a letter to the royal on X inviting him to learn about their school's #AmIManlyEnough campaign.

William apologised for Princess Catherine’s absence, saying she would have “loved to be there”.

Catherine is remaining out of the spotlight as she undergoes preventative cancer treatment, which she revealed she was having in a video message in March after months of speculation about her health and whereabouts after she had major abdominal surgery at The London Clinic in January.
