Jac Caglianone catches pitch that hits him, flips it back to pitcher

Florida Athletics

Florida star Jac Caglianone has done a lot of cool things in his career, but the bit he pulled off on Tuesday night in a game against Florida Atlantic might be up there as the coolest.

Caglianone, who has been a frequent victim of the intentional walk of late, actually got some good looks against the Owls early on.

He singled and scored his first time around the order, then he came to the plate again in the bottom of the second inning. With one on and one out, Caglianone took a ball off the back. But it’s what he did next that amazed.

Check it out below.

That’s right, Caglianone manages to catch his own hit by pitch, pop it back up to himself and then flip it back to the mound for the Florida Atlantic pitcher. Nothing like a little athletic feat wrapped in a mind game for the opposing pitcher.

Jac Caglianone took his base and was eventually retired on a fielder’s choice. Florida left two runners aboard in the bottom of the second inning, but the Gators led the game 3-2 at the time.

In need of any and all wins at this point as Florida looks to solidify a postseason berth, Florida is relying on Caglianone now more than ever.

After seeing four intentional walks in a series against Arkansas over the weekend, Caglianone finally got a decent look with the bases loaded and boy did he deliver. He launched a shot over the wall for a grand slam, helping Florida pull out a 9-5 victory to salvage the series and prevent a sweep.

Jac Caglianone is also chasing another feat that he accomplished last year: leading the nation in home runs.

He went into Tuesday night trailing Georgia‘s Charlie Condon, who had hit 29 home runs on the season. Caglianone entered the Florida Atlantic game on 26.

But Condon has stretched out his lead early on Tuesday night, hitting a home run against Kennesaw State to get to 30 home runs on the season.
