David Ornstein explains what Liverpool will do if a big bid comes in for Mohamed Salah this summer

The future of Mohamed Salah took an unexpected turn recently, with the forward now expected to stay at Liverpool.

Having been the subject of strong interest from Saudi Arabian clubs last summer, it had been predicted that Salah might exit along with Jurgen Klopp.

The Egyptian has had a difficult time of things lately and his weekend spat with Klopp only heightened the sense that he may be on his way.

On the back of that argument with his manager though, a different reality has become clear. As has been reported this week, Salah looks likely to stay at Anfield.

Obviously though, there are still four months until we know that for sure. Plenty can happen in that time. And journalist David Ornstein has now explained what the reaction from Liverpool would be to a big bid from Saudi Arabia.

How would Liverpool react to Mohamed Salah bid

As we know, Liverpool outright rejected any and all proposals for Salah last year. It was slightly unclear whether that was on the player’s behest or the club’s stance, though.

Obviously, Liverpool didn’t want to lose their Egyptian King. But if Mo had pushed to leave, then surely a bid would have been accepted.

Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast on Tuesday, Ornstein suggested that the same is likely to be true this time around.

“I’ve asked the question [to Liverpool] what if this massive offer comes in that people seem to think will arise from the Saudi Pro League,” began the journalist.

“Well, one, I’ve explained why I don’t think it will but two, it all comes down to Mo Salah and if he’s committed to Liverpool, it’s case closed.”

It all comes down to Mo. For the time being, that’s good enough for us.

Is Mohamed Salah happy at Liverpool

The reason for the reports surrounding Salah this week seem to be to show that the 31-year-old is indeed happy at Liverpool.

It seems likely that the claims came directly from the player’s camp. There is no agitation to leave on Salah’s part.

Again, this shouldn’t be taken as read for the rest of the summer. Liverpool have a new coach incoming and what Mo eventually decides to do could depend on how talks with Arne Slot go.

Unless he has a dramatic change of heart though, it would seem that Salah is fully committed to staying at Anfield.

If another enormous offer comes in to him from the Saudis, then that could be tested. Liverpool would then seemingly listen. But until we hear otherwise, it’s time to plan for next season with Mo on board. Super news.
