Report: Wolves interested in 23-year-old who's faster than Kingsley Coman; he's 'like an arrow'

Wolves are reportedly said to be interested in Werder Bremen winger Justin Njinmah, but face strong competition for the star this summer.

Wanderers are a little light in the wide areas at the moment, and the feeling is that the club will address this in the summer.

Pedro Neto is potentially going to be sold, which would leave Pablo Sarabia and Hwang Hee-chan as the only natural wide players. Rayan Ait-Nouri can play more advanced, but the Algeria international may also be on his way this summer.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde can do a job, but it is not his best position.

So the need for one or two new wide forwards this summer is very clear.

And seemingly, Wolves are now showing an interest in Justin Njinmah of Werder Bremen…

It has been claimed today by German outlet Kicker that Wolves are one of a few clubs taking an interest in Justin Njinmah, a 23-year-old forward.

Njinmah has been an important player for Werder this season, scoring six goals and making two assists in 24 appearances for the club. He has had to miss the last five league games due to an ankle injury and then a virus.

Njinmah, who had a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund in 2022/23 but only made one first-team appearance, has caught the eye this term and Werder are thought to be keen on extending his contact.

But the player has options. Wolves are keen, but there is also interest from Everton, Villarreal and some unnamed clubs in Germany.

Njinmah seems like a Gary O’Neil kind of player

This is an interesting transfer link and on the face of it, Njinmah feels like someone Gary O’Neil would be interested in.

For one, he is very, very fast. As reported by Kicker, he is Werder’s quickest player having been clocked at 35.53 km/h this season. That puts him 14th in the division, just below the likes of Leroy Sane (35.82km/h) and Alphonso Davies (36.02km/h) but faster than Kingsley Coman (35.30km/h).

His Werder Bremen teammate Niklas Stark has previously said of him (via bundesliga.com): “Justin’s the kind of player you can throw into a game late on. He’s no slouch. As a defender, it’s not easy in the final 20 minutes. He’s like an arrow. He brings a lot to the team.”

As Wolves fans know, O’Neil likes pace and mobility. In 2023/24 he has leaned heavily on Matheus Cunha, Hwang and Neto because of their pace and dynamism, and that has brought Wolves success.

He had Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva available earlier in the season but was reluctant to turn to them.

So it is certainly worth keeping an eye out for developments on Njinmah.
