‘Something else’: Manuel Akanji says he has been blown away by ‘crazy’ Man City teammate

Manuel Akanji has said that he has been stunned by what one of his teammates has done at Manchester City.

Since joining the Manchester club back in the 2022 summer transfer window, the defender has won five major titles and could end this season with another two.

With almost two seasons under his belt as a City player, the 28-year-old has shared his thoughts on another figure at the club who has spent a similar amount of time at the Etihad Stadium as him and what he’s done during his time there.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the club’s official YouTube channel, Akanji said this when asked if he was surprised by the fact that Erling Haaland scored 52 goals in 53 games throughout his debut season last term.

He said: “It’s crazy how many goals he scored.

I knew he was capable of that but still doing it that’s something else.

“He helped us a lot in achieving the goals that we had for last year and I hope that he’s going to do it again this year and we can all even improve on that.

“Obviously, he’s been injured, but we’re in a good position to win some titles again and I hope we can do that.”

Prior to the duo joining City, they featured in 66 games together for Borussia Dortmund and even made one joint goal participation which saw Akanji provide the assist for Haaland’s late winner in a 1-0 victory over Fortuna Dusseldorf during the 2019/10 Bundesliga campaign.

For the Citizens, the striker and defender have appeared in 70 games together across all competitions.

Having not only scored so many goals and won the Treble in his first season at the Etihad, the 23-year-old broke numerous records in doing so, writing his name in not just City’s history books but English football’s as well.

This season has seen the striker find the back of the net 21 times in 27 Premier League appearances.

With two more trophies on the line for Akanji and Haaland, we feel that both players could be vital in whether or not City get their hands on them.
