'The plan is nearly done': Rohl shares his unique pre-season blueprint for Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has revealed his plans for the pre-season.

Sheffield Wednesday fans will be glad to hear Rohl talking about the pre-season.

For a long time it looked as though he was nailed on to leave this summer, though with the Owls now on the cusp of safety, Rohl’s future looks secure.

That’s for the time being, anyway, and Sheffield Wednesday can still be relegated on the final day of the season when they travel to Sunderland in the Championship.

And that would surely see Rohl look elsewhere, with Sunderland one of the teams interested in his services.

But Rohl is now looking ahead to the pre-season and it’s set to be another huge summer for Sheffield Wednesday who have a horde of first-team players out of contract.

That, and several key loan players set to return to their parent clubs.

Danny Rohl reveals pre-season plan at Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking to The Star ahead of the weekend finale vs Sunderland, Rohl discussed his plans for the summer ahead, saying:

“The plan is nearly done. But we’re still waiting for some friendly games that we’re looking for. We’ll be going on two preseason camps – one in the UK and one in Germany, that’s what we’re doing.

“For me it was clear, I don’t like to have one long preseason camp, for me it’s better to have two smaller ones in order for the atmosphere to work well.

“I don’t like to have too many friendly games, I prefer to have one game in one week, because then you can really train for one topic – otherwise you’re looking just game to game. That’s important for me.”

What the summer ahead will hold for Sheffield Wednesday

If Sheffield Wednesday stay in the Championship, and Rohl stays on board, then the summer ahead will surely be the busiest and hopefully the most productive one in a number of years.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri may yet have his work cut out in providing all the necessary changes that Rohl will surely want to make at the club.

But Chansiri will know that Rohl is his most valuable asset, arguably ever since he took over the club in 2015, so keeping him happy is paramount.

There’ll be a number of new players arriving and they’ll have to quickly get to grips with the Rohl way.

And the pre-season training camp will surely be a rigorous one in which the players get prepared for the energetic and intense style of play that Rohl wants.

It’ll certainly prove to be make or break for some, though those who come through will surely play an important role in what will be a much brighter 2024/25 campaign.

Kick off vs Sunderland is at 12:30pm on Saturday.
