‘So good’: Manuel Akanji says he can’t believe what 20-year-old Man City player can do with the ball

Manuel Akanji has said that he’s been so impressed by what one Manchester City teammate can do.

During his time at the Manchester club, the defender has shared the pitch with 31 players in total.

This latest campaign has seen the Switzerland international feature in 43 games across all competitions, starting 41 and playing in numerous defensive and midfield positions.

Even though the Blues are in the midst of a crucial stage of their latest race to win the Premier League title, Akanji has taken the time to highlight one player he has been particularly captivated by at times this season.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the club’s official YouTube channel, Akanji had this to say when asked about Oscar Bobb’s progression this season.

He said: “He’s been doing so good in training and when he came on in the games as well.

“He’s such a good dribbler with his left foot, how close he keeps the ball to his feet.”

In his first season as part of Pep Guardiola’s senior squad, the winger has made 25 appearances in all competitions and has been able to score two goals and deliver two assists.

His first Premier League goal saw the 20-year-old score the winner in City’s 3-2 victory away at Newcastle United from the bench.

Oscar Bobb has shown his talent this season

In terms of his ability on the ball, as Akanji highlighted, Bobb has successfully completed 11 of the 18 take-ons he has attempted across the 13 Premier League games he’s appeared in.

This has given him a success percentage of 61.1% for his take-ons, which is the same as Bernardo Silva and higher than the likes of Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez among others in the City squad.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Akanji has been so impressed with Bobb’s ability on the ball.
