Liverpool offered Salah a second chance in England after he struggled to shine with Chelsea, who cut their losses after 30 months. The winger only scored two and assisted three goals in 19 appearances with the Blues before embarking on loan spells at ACF Fiorentina and Roma.

Chelsea took a punt on Salah in January 2014 after he showed some potential with FC Basel. The attacker recorded 20 goals and 17 assists in 79 games for the Swiss side. But Salah only re-found his form once at Roma with 34 goals and 22 assists in 83 games, including his loan.

Where was Mohamed Salah born?

Mohamed Salah was born in the village of Nagrig, near the city of Basyoun, which is close to the northern coast of Egypt. Nagrig is a traditionally poor village and it is also best known for being the birthplace of Salah. Nagrig also has a rising population of around 15,000 residents.

Mohamed Salah has developed a few iconic celebrations through the years given the prolific rate the forward scores goals. His most iconic celebration is the ‘sujud’, where Salah – who is a devout Muslim – goes down onto his knees and prays with his forehead touching the turf.

“It’s not kissing the ground,” Salah explained to CNN in 2018. “It’s something like praying or, like, thanking God for what I have received. But, yeah, it’s just praying and praying for a win. I’ve always done that since I was young, everywhere.”

Salah also developed a tree pose celebration during his time at Liverpool, which the forward explained originated from his passion for yoga. He also debuted the celebration after scoring Liverpool’s second goal to help them claim a 2-0 win against Chelsea at Anfield in April 2019.

“I am a yoga man,” Salah told Sky Sports after Liverpool beat his former team, Chelsea. “I do yoga and it just came into my mind.”
