According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, former Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims is expected to transfer to Arizona State. If Sims does wind up with the Sun Devils, he will be joining his third school in as many years after just one year in Lincoln.

“The current expectation is that ex-Nebraska and Georgia Tech QB Jeff Sims is going to end up at Arizona State, sources tell @ChrisKarpman and me for @247Sports,” Zenitz said via X.

In five games with the Huskers last season, two of which were starts, Sims threw for 282 yards, one touchdown, and six interceptions while completing 59.6% of his throws. Sims was a little better on the ground with 189 yards and a touchdown on 42 carries.

Turnovers were an issue for the quarterback, though. The six interceptions were mentioned but also fumbled on four occasions. Nebraska wound up losing all four of them and Sims was part of 10 turnovers throughout the season.

Arizona State is now expecting to be adding an experienced player, even if the stats from last season are not great. Six different players threw at least five passes for the Sun Devils in 2023, needing some more stability at the position moving forward.

Arizona State experiencing quarterback turnover this offseason

The portal gives with Sims but likely the only reason Sims’ commitment was needed is because of what the portal took away from Arizona State this offseason. Multiple guys have left the program in the past few months, making adding a quarterback a near requirement.

Head coach Kenny Dillingham got a huge recruiting win during the 2023 cycle, landing Jaden Rashada after being released from his National Letter of Intent from Florida. Rashada even started games for the Sun Devils this season but decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Athens is now where the former four-star calls home, working toward becoming Georgia‘s starter down the road.

Drew Pyne has also left the program after just one season. He came to Tempe from Notre Dame but is now going to play for the Missouri Tigers. Pyne wound up throwing just 49 pass attempts for the Sun Devils in 2023, going for 273 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Jacob Conover, who originally was a member of the 2019 recruiting class and attended BYU, left Arizona State as well.
