Michigan has landed a commitment from a veteran and talented playmaker out of Youngstown State, snagging wide receiver CJ Charleston out of the NCAA transfer portal.

The veteran wideout announced the commitment on his Twitter account.

Charleston had something of a breakout season during the 2023 campaign, posting 33 catches for 503 yards and four touchdowns. That was his best output to date.

But the 6-foot, 190-pound receiver has contributed for the Penguins for the last four seasons.

In total, Charleston has logged 60 catches for 864 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also chipped in the occasional kickoff return, something he might be able to add to his repertoire going forward.

Prior to enrolling at Youngstown State, CJ Charleston was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 980 overall player in the nation by On3. He did not have an On3 Industry Ranking as a result of other major recruiting sites not providing a ranking or grade.

He checked in as On3’s No. 180 wide receiver in the 2019 class.

Michigan loses linebacker to transfer portal

Michigan linebacker Hayden Moore has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He is the latest Wolverines player to hit the open market.

Moore didn’t play last season as a freshman and will have four years of eligibility remaining after taking a redshirt. He also held offers from Wisconsin and Texas A&M out of high school.

Moore played high school football at Regis Jesuit (Co.), where he was a three-star recruit. He was the No. 1,181 overall player and No. 8-ranked player in the state of Colorado during the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
