3 signings Liverpool need to make to compete with Man City and Arsenal

By Jack Gallagher

Liverpool's hopes of winning the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp's final season at the club have gone up in smoke in recent weeks.

A run of one win in five has seen Klopp's side drift out of the race, with the Reds now a whopping five points worse off than league leaders Arsenal heading into the final stretch of the 2023/24 season.

So with Klopp leaving and Feyenoord manager Arne Slot set to takeover, how can Liverpool compete with Manchester City and Arsenal in 2024/25?

Here's the three signings they need to make to do it...

1. Victor Osimhen

If there's one single reason why Liverpool have fallen off the pace in the 2023/24 Premier League title, it's missed chances.

The Reds have managed to miss 61 'big chances' this season, with Darwin Nunez - their current number nine - conspiring to fluff his lines in front of goal a rather staggering 26 times in the Premier League alone.

This frugality in front of goal is the perfect excuse for Liverpool to go out and sign a clinical number nine this summer.

And the man that fits that bill best is Victor Osimhen.

The Napoli striker is set to be available this summer for just over £100m, and considering his record of 75 goals in 130 games in all competitions for the Serie A club, it's fair to say that that'd be money well spent.

2. Khephren Thuram

Liverpool's midfield underwent a complete transformation during the 2023 summer transfer window as Fabinho, Jorgan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

While that overhaul has generally been successful, it's been clear in recent months that Liverpool probably need another energetic and top quality option in the middle of the park.

Having long been linked with a move to Anfield, Khephren Thuram is perhaps the most logical signing to make to add that extra energy and quality.

The 23-year-old is capable of playing as both a number six and a number eight, and has been absolutely outstanding for OGC Nice in recent seasons.

3. Goncalo Inacio

If you've been anywhere near Liverpool Twitter (X) over the last month, you'll be aware of fans' current feelings toward Ibrahima Konate.

If you haven't, well let's just say that Reds fans aren't particularly happy with how he's been performing.

So with that in mind, it makes sense for Liverpool to dip into the market for a centre-back this summer. The centre-back they should see as their number one target is Goncalo Inacio.

Inacio has long been linked with a move to Anfield and would make for a perfect left-footed partner for Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the Reds' defence.
