Ferrari fans have a lot to say about the team’s ‘blue’ livery at the Miami Grand Prix

The on-track action at the Miami Grand Prix hasn’t started yet, but Ferrari fans have now seen the car’s new livery after plenty of hype over the past week.

Ferrari announced a new partnership with HP – a sponsor synonymous with Formula 1 – and Miami is the first race where their logo will appear on the car.

In a throwback to Ferrari’s blue car in 1964, a new livery was promised this weekend and fans have reacted to the final reveal on Instagram.

Ferrari fans are saying the same thing about the team’s new Miami Grand Prix livery

It’s not uncommon anymore for teams to turn up to every Grand Prix with slightly altered liveries.

At the end of last season, Alfa Romeo had a new Las Vegas livery but the short turnaround between that Grand Prix and the season finale in Abu Dhabi meant they didn’t have time to switch back to their original white and red design.

McLaren are also brilliant at coming out with new car designs as Zak Brown is an expert in getting plenty of sponsors on board meaning they have a lot of companies to please.

However, the most iconic sight in Formula 1 is a red Ferrari driving around a track, something that fans didn’t think they would see in Miami.

It turns out the car isn’t as different as many expected and that has evoked a reaction from Ferrari’s followers that they potentially didn’t see coming.

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will be parading around the paddock in completely blue overalls throughout the weekend and it wouldn’t be a surprise if thousands of limited edition blue Ferrari caps were sold to fans in Miami.

Unfortunately, the livery feels like a missed opportunity with blue highlights only featuring on both wings, the tyres and a stripe on the side of the car and the halo.

The mood didn’t particularly change further down the comments, with aryanj_ saying: “This team always find a way to disappoint us”

User dannyesposiito made a comparison to the Disney film Cars and replied: “My dream of seeing her in the colors of the dinoco has vanished”

While arnavsamel10 simply said: “All those concepts looked amazing what is this?!”

Why are Ferrari running a blue livery on their Formula 1 car?

There isn’t a more iconic sight on a Formula 1 track than a glistening red Ferrari sitting on the grid.

However, it hasn’t always been that way and there were two shades of blue – Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino – that used to regularly feature on Ferrari’s cars.

In 1964, a feud between Enzo Ferrari, the FIA and Italy’s motorsport body saw the team briefly abandon their famous red livery.

Instead, John Surtees and Lorenzo Bandini drove a white and blue car in Formula 1, with the British driver winning the championship that year.

It only appeared on the grid a couple of times, but was enough to help inspire Ferrari’s livery in Miami – alongside their new partnership with HP – however, fans have been left frustrated that they didn’t take the design a step further.

In stark contrast, RB have also revealed their unique livery and it’s immediately more eye-catching than Ferrari’s offering.
