'Fantastic': Rohl admits he wants more players like one 'outstanding' gem at Sheffield Wednesday

Danny Rohl has hinted that he wants to sign more players like one ‘outstanding’ Sheffield Wednesday star this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday are just days away from finally discovering their fate in the Championship relegation battle.

The Owls have spent a majority of the campaign in the drop zone, but back-to-back wins over West Brom and Blackburn Rovers has left them three points above the bottom three.

The outcome of this weekend’s trip to Sunderland will decide whether they remain in the second division, and is also likely to affect their transfer plans for this summer.

Danny Rohl wasn’t responsible for any of Wednesday’s 12 summer signings, but did bring in some quality players in January.

James Beadle arrived on loan from Brighton and has picked up seven clean sheets, while Ike Ugbo has netted seven goals, and Ian Poveda also made a very positive impact before he got injured.

The Owls have been urged to try and sign Beadle again this summer, and while it is unclear whether that is the club’s plan, Danny Rohl has admitted he wants to follow their transfer strategy and sign players similar to the 19-year-old.

James Beadle has been ‘outstanding’ for Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking in today’s press conference, Rohl said: “He made the step up from League One ot the Championship, but not just a Championship club… he learned what it means to fight to stay in the league, to come back from some problems, from some conceded goals, to stay up.

“I think James in this case, is really, really strong, and his mindset is for me, at this age, outstanding. When you see how calm he is, it’s fantastic, even under pressure and even if some decision wasnt the right one. It’s great to see and hopefully we can give some new young players this opportunity to improve, to develop with us in the future.”

The Owls should look to the Premier League again

Sheffield Wednesday have often had one of the oldest starting line-ups in the Championship and haven’t really seen the benefit of it.

However, recently they have looked to bring in younger players such as James Beadle, Di’Shon Bernard and Djeidi Gassama.

It has really struck a positive balance between young, exciting talents and experienced leaders, and has worked in their favour.

The success of Beadle will hopefully offer Premier League clubs confirmation that Hillsborough is a good place to send their youngsters, and Wednesday should use that to their advantage.
