Will Hughes has just signed a new contract with Crystal Palace however it isn’t for the reason you’d think, here’s why?
Since Oliver Glasner arrived at Selhurst Park, he’s revolutionised not only the first team but the entire squad.
Players like Jeffrey Schlupp and Jean-Philippe Mateta have gone from players who couldn’t be relied on to a screamer scoring forward and a clinical striker.
Will Hughes is another who’s been revitalised under the Austrian’s rule at Crystal Palace.
The midfielder has gone from the point where fans despaired when he played, to now being a dependable and solid part of Glasner’s team.
Now, he’s been handed another positive moment this season with a contract extension, here’s why he got it.
Why Will Hughes’ contract has been extended
On Thursday, The Athletic reported that 29-year-old Hughes has just triggered a contract extension at Palace which will see him remain for an additional year.
Hughes’ contract was set to expire in June however he will now remain until June 2025.
The reason for his extension is that he’s now made 31 appearances this season in all competitions which is the number he was required to hit to trigger a year extension.
Hughes has enjoyed excellent form alongside Wharton recently and his extension comes as a positive for the club.
With little time remaining until the end of the season, it’ll be interesting to see who else ends up with an extended contract.

Which other Crystal Palace players should get contract extensions?
With Hughes’ extension, there are now seven players due to depart next month for free.
But how many will end up going and how many deserve another year at the club? Let’s have a look.
The argument to keep Clyne and Schlupp is that both have been used by Glasner and have done well when called upon.
Palace’s depth is awful and leaving eight players needing replaced isn’t the smartest idea.
So keeping these two to then replace them in a year seems a good call.
