‘I am sorry’: Danny Murphy slams Simon Jordan's 'silly' claim about Mohamed Salah and Lisandro Martinez

Liverpool and Manchester United have entertained the masses with some enthralling matches over the years.

Put aside this season, in recent times, it hasn’t just been memorable for Liverpool, but embarrassing for Manchester United.

One prime example is that 7-0 win for Jurgen Klopp’s side when Mohamed Salah bagged himself a brace of goals and assists.

It was quite an incredible night at Anfield and one the Liverpool faithful won’t forget and Man United fans simply don’t want to be reminded about.

One man who was in Erik ten Hag’s team on that day was a certain Lisandro Martinez – he was booked and then hooked off after 76 minutes.

In recent days, Simon Jordan has got the notion that Salah is ‘overrated’ and also questioned some of his performances in big games.

The former Crystal Palace owner then took it up another level by using Martinez as an example and how he ‘put it on Salah and he didn’t want any more of that’, as he told talkSPORT.

But that was swiftly shut down by Danny Murphy who told his fellow pundit that it was a ‘silly’ thing to say.

The former Liverpool midfielder highlighted Salah’s overall record against Man United and how he cooked that very same player during the 7-0 win.

Mohamed Salah against Manchester United

“He has been the one, over the years, that has been the one that’s turned up,” said Murphy. “He really has in so many big games and he has been the one that has got Liverpool out of trouble and been able to get over the line against really good opposition, especially in Europe.

“You have to look at it in the period of seven years he has been there, not the last 18 months where Liverpool haven’t won the trophies they are expected to win. The majority of his time at Liverpool, in the big games, he has turned up.

Jordan then claimed that there was one game where Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United ‘put it on him and Salah doesn’t want any more of that’.

Murphy responded to that: “I am sorry, that’s a flippant and a silly thing because against Manchester United in the last few seasons, he scored so many goals. And actually at Old Trafford and Anfield, when they beat them seven and went there and scored four or five, he absolutely tore them apart when Martinez was playing. What he did to them at Anfield when they beat them 7-0 was embarrassing for Martinez. No one mentions that! What because of one game Martinez had a good game against him.”

Mohamed Salah’s overrated talk is nonsense

Look, the 31-year-old might have gone off the boil since the turn of the year, but you still need to put respect on his name.

Even during such difficult times, he still has 17 Premier League goals to his name and with Erling Haaland leading the Golden Boot charge with 21 goals, the man on Liverpool’s right is still in that race.

The Reds have won it all under Klopp and one of the main reasons for that is the crazy nature of Salah’s play and performances.

The day he does leave. He departs a Liverpool legend and also gets into their all-time XI, yet he isn’t world-class? Shut down that nonsense!
