"Shocked": Paul Merson now predicts result of Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

Paul Merson has now predicted the result of Monday’s Premier League clash between Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

Both the Eagles and the Red Devils will be confident heading into this encounter at Selhurst Park, with Oliver Glasner’s side currently on a four-game unbeaten run, which includes three wins, while Erik ten Hag’s men have gone five games without defeat, drawing three.

So, what does Merson expect to happen in Crystal Palace vs Manchester United? Let’s take a look…

Paul Merson predicts Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

Well, the 56-year-old is not expecting Manchester United to do anything special in SE25 on Monday.

Merson believes Crystal Palace will pick up all three points if Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are both fit to start alongside each other.

The man from Harlesden also claimed that he would be “shocked” if Manchester United found a way to beat Crystal Palace on Monday – regardless of whether the France U21 international and England international can play.

Merson told Sportskeeda: “If Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise are fully fit, Crystal Palace will beat Manchester United and anyone who has watched the Red Devils in recent weeks will agree with me.

“Manchester United are a massive football club, but not a massive football team anymore. Their team is not even remotely close to being considered good enough considering the size of the club. I’d be more shocked if Manchester United won this game – that’s where it’s got to at the moment!”

Merson, who recently called Jean-Philippe Mateta the most improved footballer in England, then shared a score prediction.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Manchester United

It feels strange to head into a game against Manchester United with a pundit like Merson tipping Crystal Palace as favourites to win – but that is testament to how well Glasner has done since replacing Roy Hodgson.

The Austrian has instilled belief into the players at Selhurst Park, and three straight wins against Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle – all of whom competed in Europe this season – certainly shouldn’t be overlooked.

Marc Guehi could return

Amid this four-game unbeaten run, Nathaniel Clyne has surprisingly shone in a new centre-back role.

However, the Crystal Palace academy graduate could return to the bench against Manchester United, as the Daily Mail believe Marc Guehi is fit to start.

If the England international does reunite with Joachim Andersen and Chris Richards in defence, our chances of beating Manchester United surely increase, such is the Crystal Palace No.6’s immense quality at the back.
