'Works in their favour': David Ornstein has just shared a big update for Newcastle and Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United may face a difficult summer ahead.

While there is hope of a large scale rebuild at Newcastle this summer following a difficult season for Eddie Howe, lingering FFP issues may make that difficult.

As a result, key players are being linked with moves away in an effort to raise funds at St James’ Park.

Alexander Isak, after all, has been tipped for a move to Arsenal but the Swedish international is not the only Toon star the Gunners reportedly have on their radar.

Indeed, Bruno Guimaraes is said to be of interest to the north London giants too. Recent summers have seen Mikel Arteta’s side splash big cash and Guimaraes does have a release clause worth around £100m in his contract on Tyneside.

Still, Arsenal may not have it easy if they are to try and sign him.

David Ornstein shares major transfer update amid Arsenal’s interest in Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes

That’s because noted transfer insider David Ornstein believes Newcastle have something working in their favour when it comes to trying to keep Guimaraes at the club.

Clearly, the presence of a release clause does complicate matters somewhat but Ornstein had an interesting answer when asked about the chances of Guimaraes moving to the Emirates Stadium.

While he did once again confirm Arsenal’s interest, Ornstein says the fact the Brazilian international is so happy at Newcastle is currently working in the club’s favour.

“Bruno seems extremely happy at Newcastle and that works in their favour,” he wrote in a Q&A on The Athletic.

“That said, there are few players who would decline a move to a club like Arsenal – especially given what is happening there at the moment – should the clubs pursue a deal.

“The Newcastle project is hugely ambitious and if sales need to be made to comply with PSR they would much prefer these to be fringe players than the likes of Bruno and Isak.”

Bruno Guimaraes has already proven he won’t force Newcastle exit

Guimaraes has openly talked about his desire to stay at the club long-term.

Obviously, he wouldn’t be the first player to leave a club after declaring his intention to stay but it seems obvious that he’s unlikely to be the one pushing for an exit.

Whether or not he does leave remains to be seen but he would appear to have too much respect for Newcastle fans to make it an ugly affair.

Please, just give us one more season…
