Veterinarian shares things you should never do to your dog, one of which 40% of owners admit to doing

A veterinarian has offered advice to pet owners while urging them not to do what 40% of Americans have earlier admitted to doing.

Taking care of your pets is, to an extent, subjective. Though no one would dispute certain facts, like the fact they shouldn’t be eating chocolate, experts constantly contradict each other. That being said, the latest advice from Dr. Adam Christman seems to hitting the spot for many pet owners.

Top dog tips from a veterinarian

Dr. Adam Christman (@dr.adamchristman52) boasts over 1.1 million followers on TikTok where he usually posts content about his job as a veterinarian. This usually includes tips and tricks for dog owners and important information about pet health.

Taking to the video-sharing platform, Adam shared seven things you should never do to your dog. The first was leaving them alone in a car; shockingly, a recent survey found that 40% of people admitted to doing so.

Secondly, Dr. Adam warned against forcing your pup you live outside, which used to be a fairly standard practice in dog households. It only takes a modicum of common sense to realize why, after all, would you want to sleep out in the wild no matter the weather.

Tip numbers three and four went hand in hand as the expert urged his followers to keep up to date with their dog’s dental and healthcare. Though undoubtedly expensive, it’s something you signed up for when getting a dog.

Offering further tips, the veterinarian said you should not be using the dog crate as a punishment. You want them to associate the crate with rest and recovery, not being in trouble. The second to last dog tip was also common sense as Dr. Adam reinforced that you should never physically hit your dog.

Last, but certainly not least, was the act of treating your dog like a dog. Though this tip seemed somewhat confusing, Dr Adam was essentially encouraging his watchers to treat the pooch like another member of the family.

Naturally, people had some opinions

Of course, whenever an expert speaks up about a particular issue, people feel the need to challenge their opinion with their own wealth of knowledge. There is a wealth of knowledge online, social media, and through various channels and it can feel like a minefield. But each person will have their own opinion when it comes to reading about new perspectives or tips to tackle the issue.

In Dr. Adam’s comment section, one person wrote: “I keep my dog outside, I don’t understand why people think it’s a bad thing to keep them outside.”

“I agree with all. I do leave my dog in the car for a few minutes if the weather isn’t to warm or too cold,” someone else said, as a third stated, “Dog sport people laughing at the ‘never leave your dog alone in a car’ with our remotely temperature controlled vehicles.”
