'Intense': Matheus Nunes says he absolutely loves working alongside 'one of a kind' Man City man

Matheus Nunes has labelled one Manchester City man as ‘one of a kind’ and has revealed his love for working alongside him.

Manchester City signed Matheus Nunes from Wolves last summer in a £54m move but he hasn’t had much of an impact just yet.

While there have been some bright moments and glimpses of what he could bring to the side, he is firmly down the midfield pecking order behind the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden.

Nunes has played just 1,529 minutes this season and is yet to score his first goal for the club, though he has racked up five assists.

Despite his lack of playing time, the Portuguese has been loving his time at City and feels he has already developed as a player.

Working alongside Pep Guardiola has been a particular highlight.

Matheus Nunes labels Pep Guardiola ‘one of a kind’

Speaking to Manchester City’s internal media, Nunes explained how he has found working for Guardiola.

He said: “He is one of a kind.

“He just takes everything to the detail and every day he is very passionate and intense in what he wants from the game and from the players.

He doesn’t let us relax because the pressure is so high and we need to win every game.

“There are maybe certain times where we relax a little bit and he is there every single time, it doesn’t matter if we are playing against Real Madrid or a team in the sixth division for the Cup, he is like that and this is the best.

“Last year the team won the Treble and everyone would expect this season for the team to be relaxed but there is no time for relaxing because he wants to win again and again.

“The players all think the same, so it matches very well with the players that he brings here.

“It doesn’t matter who goes out or who comes in, every player has the mentality to win every single week.”

Matheus Nunes faces his old club Wolves this weekend

If Nunes manages to get on the pitch on Saturday, he will be coming up against his old club Wolves for the second time this season.

City actually lost to the Black Country side 2-1 in October and a similar result this time around would be devastating in the Premier League title race.

Nunes started the match at Molineux and was actually City’s best player in the first half but was strangely hooked at half-time, perhaps because his presence alone was fuelling an angry home crowd.

It’s unlikely he’ll get many minutes, if any, on Saturday but what a time and place to get his first City goal it would be.
